Products for Stress Incontinence

July 30th, 2011

Choosing from the wide range of stress incontinence products in the market today can be a headache and a disappointment. Many incontinence products are either “for all types of incontinence” or “unisex.” Stress incontinence fall under light incontinence where in urine leakage is minimal therefore appropriate level of protection is needed for comfort and confidence.

For women who are into physical activities such as sports or work outs and are suffering from stress incontinence but would like to keep doing the things they enjoy doing, there are various incontinence products designed for their needs. The most commonly used products are the pants with absorbent pads. These pants are worn like regular panties but with special highly absorbent slim pads in the gusset. This product comes in all sizes and styles, and may be reusable or disposable.

For men who have this kind of incontinence and are not comfortable with using padded pants, they can use drip collectors. A drip collector is a pouch made of absorbent material worn over the shaft and fastened with a belt. It is discreetly thin enough to be worn under normal briefs. The pouch needs to be replaced when already soaked because urine gives off an acrid smell of ammonia and is embarrassingly evident when a soiled undergarment is not changed frequently.

Vaginal pessaries are recommended for women whose main cause of incontinence is caused by vaginal prolapse. These are silicone devices inserted into the vagina to support the vaginal walls. They come in various shapes and must be fitted by a health professional only. It is necessary that the pessary is replaced from time to time to avoid serious complications. » Read more: Products for Stress Incontinence
